TRIDENT ACTUATORs ANNOUNCES SUBMERGIBLE CAPABILITIES

September 13, 2023

Mamaroneck, NY, USA – Trident Actuators, Inc. announced today that its heavy-duty electrohydraulic actuator enclosure has been approved by a certified testing service to be leak-proof under 50 feet of water for 14 days.

With this result, Trident is the first and only actuator whose enclosure has been third-party tested using the standards set forth in IP68.  The successful test proves what Trident and its customers have known for years, that our actuators can withstand flooding and other extreme weather events while maintaining operability.

Chris Massey, Trident’s Director of Engineering, stated “Trident is very excited to make this announcement.  Publications such as Nature magazine and the New York Times have produced articles recently highlighting the increased risk of flooding in the United States, even for areas not historically prone to floods.  A Trident Actuator can remain functional in dire circumstances, allowing time for valves and gates to be controlled as necessary to prevent further losses.”

The desire to protect, not only Trident products, but all wastewater infrastructure from flooding comes from the realization that climate change is resulting in higher sea levels and additional risk of flooding, all over the world. Nature Magazine reports that many populated areas in the United States will face at least a 20% increase in the cost of flood prevention and damages between 2020-2050.

Trident’s customers have already seen the durability and success of our actuators in areas prone to flooding, including Charlie Youhan of Arcadis NV, who stated, “When I was working with New York DEP…a storm came through and the Trident enclosure held up the hydraulic system pretty well. There was no damage at all on the enclosure after a large storm and it still works as intended.”

Trident’s Director of Sales, Mike Sturgill, added that “Trident has, for a long time, allowed our customers to rest easy at night knowing that their critical infrastructure is safe wherever a Trident Actuator is installed. This achievement provides them with even more peace of mind than before.”
